Prevention and Education
As a practice, we believe that preventative care and education are the keys to sustained optimal health.
We place a lot of emphasis on regular professional cleaning and thorough examinations. We check the overall health of your teeth and gums, and also for the presence of anomalies like oral cancer.
The perfect smile is best when built on a foundation of great oral health.
The Maintenance Basics
To maintain your oral health, we recommend you eat a balanced diet, brush twice a day with a soft brush and fluoride toothpaste, and floss nightly before bed. You can also use a mouthwash if desired.
We also recommend you have your teeth professionally cleaned once every six months by our hygienist. Fluoride will be applied to strengthen your teeth. During the same appointment, a dentist will also give you a check-up to make sure everything is ok.
If you have any questions about brushing and flossing, please ask us!
Oral Health is Whole Body Health
Your oral health is more than just about your teeth.
Without regular professional cleaning, the bacterial plaque in your mouth can cause gum inflammation (gingivitis) and gum disease (periodontitis).
Left untreated, gum disease can cause your teeth to fall out and give you nasty infections to boot. Clinical studies have shown links between gum disease and other serious health problems like heart disease, strokes, heart infections (endocarditis) and diabetes.
If your gums bleed when you brush your teeth, you may have gingivitis or periodontitis. Because gum disease is painless, only a dentist can diagnose it.
