What is a crown?
A crown is a cap that is custom fitted and bonded to each tooth. It covers most of the tooth and can be made from porcelain, gold or other advanced materials.
Traditionally, crowns are manufactured off-site in a specialist laboratory from the impressions taken in-chair. Two visits are required. You will be fitted with a temporary crown in between the two visits.
With our in-house CEREC technology, we can make most crowns while you wait.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is a set of artificial teeth made to replace missing teeth. The artificial teeth are set onto a substrate that bridges the gap caused by the missing teeth.
Fitting a bridge requires the teeth on either side of the gap to be crowned.
A bridge is manufactured off-site in a specialist laboratory. With our in-house CEREC technology, we can make some bridges (typically 2 to 3 unit bridges) while you wait.
Is a dental bridge removable?
No. A dental bridge, unlike a denture, is permanently bonded to the two natural teeth on either side of the bridge.
What does “unit” mean when describing a dental bridge?
A unit refers to a single replacement tooth.
A 3-unit dental bridge means a bridge that is made up of three replacement teeth.
What does “single-visit” service mean?
A single-visit service means you can get a permanent crown or bridge while you wait.
Using our in-house CEREC technology, the process can take as little as 40 minutes.
This also means no more temporary crowns, uncomfortable impressions and less drilling.
A single-visit service may not be suitable to all patient cases.
What is CEREC?
CEREC is a system made by Sirona that combines 3D scanning and CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technologies that enables us to provide single-visit restorations like crowns and some bridges.
How do single-visit CEREC crowns and bridges compare to traditional ones?
Clinical tests have shown that when CEREC restorations are fitted by a trained and experienced dentist, they are as reliable and durable as the traditional options.
Good home care is also critical to the longevity of the restorations.
Why buy from Australian dental laboratories?
We only use Australian-registered dental laboratories.
Australian-registered dental laboratories operate under strict regulations that serve to maintain a high standard of safety, infection control, fair working practices, qualified technicians and quality materials. These standards protect you from unscrupulous practices and substandard products that could negatively impact your health. More information about regulations and standards can be found here.
Cheap dental imports from unregulated manufacturers cannot provide any of these guarantees.
Do I have to have a cracked tooth fixed?
Sometimes, the pain and discomfort of an untreated cracked tooth can appear to abate over time. This does not mean all is well.
You should always seek treatment for a cracked tooth. Leaving it untreated opens you to infection which can spread beyond the tooth to cause pain in your jaw, neck and head. In some cases such infections can become life-threatening situations.
