There are many factors that can influence the final cost of a wisdom teeth removal procedure.
Factors that may affect the cost:
- Type of tooth extraction needed (simple in-chair or removal or impacted teeth)
- Your individual dentist
- Whether you require an oral surgeon
- Health insurance
For the best cost indication, book a consult with your dentist.
Type of extraction needed
The type of extraction needed for wisdom teeth removal will depend on the complexity of each case. A simple wisdom tooth extraction using conventional extraction methods will cost less in comparison to a more complex case where the wisdom tooth may be impacted and require a surgical extraction. The type of extraction required will play large role in determining the cost of your procedure.
Due to the complexity an impacted wisdom tooth presents, the extraction may need to be performed by an oral surgeon. During your consult, your dentist will be able to assess your case and outline the costs involved.
Private health insurance
Here at South Street Dental, we are a registered provider of HBF, HIF, Medibank, NIB, GMF and Bupa. We also have HICAPS available which allows us to offer instant rebates when you present your health fund membership card.
Depending on your level of cover, your health fund should be able to cover a portion of the total cost of your extraction procedure. During your consult, you can ask your dentist for the item numbers relating to your treatment plan, that way you can contact your private health insurance and they will be able to give you an idea of how much of the total cost they are able to cover. Alternatively, we can perform an on-the-spot check using your health fund membership card to give you an idea of the rebate you can expect from your health fund.
This is applicable for the following health funds:
- Medibank
- HBF
- GMF
- NIB
Depending on your unique case, a wisdom tooth extraction can be performed in-chair at our clinic or may require general anaesthesia and a surgical extraction. In which case, the surgery will be performed at Southbank Day Surgery in South Perth. Depending on you level of cover, your health fund may or may not cover theatre and anaesthesia fees.
