Porcelain Veneers FAQ

What are dental veneers?

Veneers are ultra-thin shells made from porcelain or composite resin material, designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. They are custom-crafted to fit your teeth perfectly, providing a natural look that enhances your smile.

What are the benefits of Veneers?

  • Aesthetic Improvement: Veneers can address a variety of cosmetic concerns, including discoloration, chips, gaps, and misalignment.
  • Natural Appearance: With their translucent quality, porcelain veneers mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth, offering a seamless appearance.
  • Durability and Stain Resistance: Porcelain veneers are known for their durability and resistance to staining, making them a long-lasting solution.
  • Minimally Invasive: The process of applying veneers is less invasive compared to other dental procedures, preserving more of your natural tooth structure.

What is the treatment process?

A small amount of enamel is carefully removed from the front of your teeth, typically about half a millimeter. This will allow the veneers to fit securely and align with your desired design.

After preparation, a digital impression of the new contours of the teeth is taken and sent to the ceramicist. Your final veneers will be crafted to precisely fit each prepared tooth from this information. You will be fitted with temporary veneers based on your design so you can start smiling straight away. It’s an opportunity to discuss changes, if any, to the final design. The exciting part is knowing that the final veneers will fit more closely, feel like nothing, and look even better.
After about 2-3 weeks, your custom veneers are ready.

At this second appointment, Your temporary veneers are carefully removed, and teeth surface scrupulously cleaned of all residue. In their place, the final veneers will be bonded permanently.

How much do veneers cost?

Porcelain veneers in Perth cost between $1000-$2800 per tooth. But as each smile is distinct, the cost of porcelain veneers varies based on the lab manufacturing fee and time spent on customizing each piece. Typically, our clients require about 6 to 10 new veneers to achieve a stunning smile transformation. We can consider a mix of alternative solutions that may be less invasive and more cost-effective (such as whitening some of the teeth).

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Our porcelain veneers are crafted by skilled artisans right here in Australia, ensuring personalised, top-quality results. Veneers typically last between 10 to 15 years, but with proper care and maintenance, they can last even longer.

How do I care for my veneers?

Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups can help maintain the health of your veneers and the underlying teeth. Like natural enamel, they can still chip or break.

Avoid habits like biting on hard objects, grinding teeth, or using teeth as tools can prevent damage to the veneers. Limit foods and drinks that can stain or damage your veneers, such as red wine, coffee, and hard candies, can help preserve their appearance.

Why porcelain?

Porcelain is strong and mimic the translucency and reflective properties of natural teeth, providing a more lifelike appearance. This results in veneers that blend seamlessly with your existing teeth.

Do veneers damage my teeth?

Porcelain veneers themselves do not inherently damage your teeth; however, the process of applying them can involve some alteration. A small amount of enamel is removed from the tooth surface to ensure a proper fit, which is irreversible and can potentially increase tooth sensitivity. It’s important to consult with a qualified dental professional to assess whether veneers are suitable for your dental health, as they can help you weigh the benefits and potential risks.

What are the risks of dental veneers?

Porcelain veneers, which build upon your existing tooth structure, are not recommended for those with significantly damaged or terminal teeth. It is not a “treatment” for dental health concerns like decay or gum disease. Poor oral health or lifestyle choices may cause veneers to fail and pose risks such as tooth sensitivity and further damage the natural teeth.

Can I put veneers on molars?

Veneers are not recommended for molars. If the tooth needing protection or repair is located towards the back of your mouth, a dental crown is a more suitable option. It’s important to address any health or functional concerns before considering veneers. Once these issues are resolved, we can use porcelain veneers on your front teeth in combination with dental crowns on your molars to achieve the desired outcome.

How does technology enhance veneer treatment?

Advanced CAD technology enables highly accurate digital scans of your teeth with immediate data transfer, and doing away with the need for traditional molds. Planning software calculate optimal positioning. State-of-the-art equipment is designed to be ergonomic and precise, minimizing the need for extensive tooth reshaping. By preserving more of the natural tooth structure, we make the veneer process more comfortable and less invasive for our patients.
